Tours of historic Trinity Episcopal Cathedral

Trinity was founded over 200 years ago. The gothic revival church is modeled on York Minster in England, and appears in the National Register of Historic Places.

Trinity offers a host of stories and beautiful features, including a collection of beautiful stained glass windows (some of which are attributed to Louis B. Tiffany).  The graveyard serves as the final resting place for many notable South Carolina and Columbia citizens.

Tours take place throughout the day. Docents will greet you at the front door on the Sumter Street side. There is no fee, though donations are happily accepted.

Children’s Carnival on the Cathedral Lawn

Fun and games throughout the day! Paint rocks, make slime, and Cocky is coming for a visit from 11:00am-12noon! We’ll also have a few special activities:

• Live Pony rides from 10:00am-12:00noon, $1.00 ticket.
• Train rides from 9:00am-2:00pm, $1.00 ticket.
• Bounce castle with slide from 9:00am-2:00pm, $1.00 ticket.
• Face Painting takes place from 10:00am-1:00pm, $1.00 ticket.
• Balloon man making balloon animals, $1.00 ticket.
• Sno cones and popcorn from 9:00am-12noon, $1.00 ticket each.

Adults supervise.

Provisions & Crafts in Satterlee Hall

Trinity is a wealth of talent. The women of Trinity have baked, cooked, pickled, jammed, sewn and crafted throughout the Bazaar’s life. We’re still at it.

Find Homemade pickles, relishes, baked goods and frozen foods to heat and serve. Find Handmade needle-worked crafts, designer and hand-crafted home decor, and an array of curated gift baskets ready for giving. Arrive early! This area sells out quickly.

Don’t miss the Jubilee Cookbook. This Trinity favorite is back for a second printing. Originally created for the 50th anniversary Bazaar, it features over 100 years of Trinity recipes:

• Old southern: hush puppies, fried chicken, biscuits, green bean casserole, berry salad, and lemon squares.
• Unique: Ginger Spread, Date Loaf, Mardi Gras Cake, Peanut Cake, Coffee Jelly.
• Sentimental: Jello salad, nutmeg toast.
• Historic: sourdough bread, baklawah

There’s something for everyone! They make great Christmas gifts. Pre-order and we’ll have your copy(s) waiting for you in Satterlee Hall.

Flu Shots, in the Library

Flu shots at the Bazaar are another way to give! Hawthorne Pharmacy donates 50 meals to Harvest Hope Food Bank for each shot given. Trinity parishioner and pharmacist, Charlotte Anderson offers flu shots in the library near the Welcome Center throughout Bazaar Day. Insurance accepted.

Bazaar Cafe & Trinity Stage in the Parking Lot

Enjoy lunch & live music.

The Bazaar Cafe offers barbecue chicken fresh from the grill, baked beans, sweet potato fries, and slaw. If artisan sandwiches are more your thing, you’ll find an amazing shrimp salad sandwich, chips, and more at the Bazaar Cafe! Children’s fare also offered.

Enjoy lunch with the lively sounds of the Trinity Stage. Join Timmy J. and the Shoestring Band featuring Trinity Dean Timothy Jones, Allen Fisher (Blue Iguanas), Robin Halliburton, Jason Schafer, and Dewey Erwin for a Bluegrass throw-down packed with old-home favorites.

We’ve heard there may be a few more special guests! You never know who’ll jump on stage. Want to jam? Bring an instrument or pick one up in the (gently-used) musical instruments booth.

Artisan Alley and Grantees in the Breezeway and Cart Courtyard

Artisan Alley is a crafting launchpad featuring some of the Midlands freshest creative talent:

• A Checkered Past – Nora Floyd’s jewelry is beautifully reworked from vintage, found, & salvaged materials including beads from across the world.
• Awe Shucks – Oyster crosses! Made with love by Rence Best.

• Kelly Gillespie, Artist – A painter working in acrylics, Kelly inspires on the canvas and through the gold-leaf cross boxes she offers.
• Lynn Baley Jewelry – Lynn’s hand-made jewelry features glass beads, gemstones, and natural stones. Sports fans will love her Carolina and Clemson jewelry.
• UnderWraps Jewelry – Cindy Pearce’s wire-wrapped and wire-weaved pendants, earrings and bracelets are an earthy collection, inspiring for fall. Find her on Instagram and Facebook.
• Women’s Well – These quilts, and quilted & sewn items are created by a collective of needleworkers working out of Wagener, South Carolina. Their work brings a feeling of comfort and home.

Artisan Alley also features budding entrepreneurs:

The 2018 Trinity Bazaar is a fundraiser for five Columbia service non-profits. Meet members of the grantee organizations, learn what they do, who they serve, and how you can help:

• Alala Cancer Society helping survivors stay in continuum of care,
• JumpStart Prison Ministries life-skills program,
• Sistercare domestic violence recovery,
• Toby’s Place – Oliver Gospel Mission program for women and children,
• Transitions Homeless Center’s life skills program for young adults.

The Gardening Booth

Across the courtyard from Artisan Alley, the Gardening Booth is the place you’ll find growing things – for example, plants, bulbs, trees & bushes for inside and out. Last year we had Papyrus and Swamp Sunflowers! Those who like to play in the dirt will find soil, pots, and gently-used tools. Take the plant fun inside with affordable decorative containers.

Revivals in Trinity Center (the gym on Sumter St.)

Trinity Center is home to Revivals: the Bazaar’s big, annual rummage sale. It contains all things bargain from clothes and decor, to sports equipment, to used musical instruments.

Tucked under the stairs on the first floor, the Musical Instruments Booth features gently-used guitars, drums, percussion instruments, a clarinet, mandolin, drums, even a couple of upright pianos at a price you can afford.

Head to the second floor for new and almost-new designer Fine Threads and gently-used Thrifty Threads. Look around, you may see a few Halloween Costumes in the mix.

Trinkets & Treasures features home goods, toys, sports equipment, furniture, Christmas and seasonal decor, and more. Some shoppers have spent their whole Bazaar day here!

Many arrive at Trinity Center early so they don’t miss a thing. And, many stay late to shop the sale. It’s up to you. Either way, faster check out and credit card purchasing evolve the Revivals shopping experience.

In sum …

If you’ve gotten this far, you’re probably exhausted! We don’t blame you. The Trinity Bazaar packs a lot into one day of fundraising fun.

Soak it all in! And as you head home, know that we appreciate your joining us for our 70th Birthday. Some of you have been with us for many of those 70 years! Drive safely, enjoy your memories and your finds, hug your children, kiss your loved ones, and give thanks for another day.

And as you wrap it all up, give yourself a little pat on the back for making someone else’s life a little easier. We at Trinity thank you. And most of all, the Bazaar Grantees thank you.
